Question:  What is the difference between discrete and process manufacturing?

Answer: The process industry is characterized by requirements that are fundamentally different from those in many discrete manufacturing environments. Process companies add value to raw materials through processes like mixing, heating, separating, chemical reactions and synthetic processes. Discrete manufacturers, on the other hand, are in the business of assembling and mounting components and/or changing the form of materials.
